Jessie Mae Mason

Jessie Mae Mason was born on June 18, 1929 to Charlie Mason and Rita Upshur in St.
Charles, Virginia.
“Punchie” as she was affectionately known as, completed her education in the public school
system in the state of Virginia. Jessie held several positions in her life where she was able to
provide for her children. Her time was spent mostly as a homemaker where she was able to
care for her family. Jessie enjoyed a colorful life and was loved by many due to her energetic,
playful and endearing mannerisms. You could always tell if she loved you if she called you
“husband” and “popped” you with a newspaper.
Jessie was an avid Septa rider, on any given day you could find her on one of her favorite
routes including but not limited to the 21, 46, 42 and 52. During her travels she enjoyed stopping
at McDonald’s where she had to have her plain burger, milkshake and apple pie. Jessie spent
her days watching television including the soap operas, daily news and Mike and Kelly with her
“husband” Michael Strahan.
Jessie departed this life on Friday August 5, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents
Charlie and Rita; her sons Thomas, Ollie Jr, Clifford, Dennis and Charles; her daughter in law,
Lynette; her son in law Willie Sr; and her grandson Anthony.
Jessie leaves to cherish her memory, including her 8 children; Alice, Deborah, Denise, James,
Tony, Lena, Patricia and Johnny; her daughter in laws Marsha and Pam; her son in law Wayne;
24 grandchildren, a host of great and great great grandchildren; extended family and friends
with special mention her long time friend Helen.
During her last days Jessie was loved and cared for by her daughter Lena who was her live-in
caretaker. She was comforted by her teddy bear “Margaret” whom she watched television and
enjoyed naps with.
