Michelle Baker-Walker Obituary

Michelle Baker-Walker was born January 26, 1955, to the late Fred Baker, Sr. and June Patton in Philadelphia, PA. Early in her life, Michelle attended primary school in Apopka, FL. When she returned to  Philadelphia, she attended Barrett Junior High School, Parkway High School, and the Community College of Philadelphia.

Michelle was a public servant during her entire life. She served in the United States Army and valued her status as a veteran. She also worked for the United States Postal Service for 22 years, retiring in 2006.

Michelle was a stunning beauty with an outgoing personality. She loved to have fun and was usually seen laughing with her family. She lovingly embraced everyone that she met, and this characteristic stood out to everyone who knew her, particularly the friends of her children. She welcomed many people into her home. She was considered a wise confidant and was known for giving out sound practical advice to anyone who sought her assistance.

Michelle was especially loved by her 6 grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed spoiling them with gifts. She loved to travel, and she enjoyed taking her grandchildren on family vacations.

Michelle met Hollis Walker in 1998 and she immediately enchanted him. They were married on May 17, 2003 and they remained devoted to each other for 14 years until his untimely passing. Michelle was also preceded in death by both her parents as well as her sisters, Irene Bowie and Anita Hamilton, and her brothers, Fred Baker, Jr, Cole Brian Baker, and Stanley Steven Baker.

Her memory will be treasured by her four children, daughters Tracey Baker, Saniyyah Sultan, and Symone Baker and son Faheem F. Sultan. She will be also missed by her brothers, Micheal Paul Baker (Rebecca) of Sanford, FL, Anthony Squire Baker (Sakinah) and  Charles Shun Baker (Haneefah), both of Atlanta, GA and James Leonard (Arlene) of Orlando, FL  as well as her sisters, Theresa Leonard, Tracy Leonard, and Trina Campbell (Ernest).  Beverly Parker, her best friend of nearly 50 years, also grieves her passing.

Finally, her grandchildren – Vashti Webb, Faheem S. Sultan, Jayla-Milan Baker, Amenna Gaines, Zahi Gaines, and Kenneth Gaines, Jr. – will always cherish their adoring Mom Mom. Her host of nieces, nephews,  friends, coworkers, and neighbors are saddened as well.
